I have tried to translate the meaning of the sentence into English and this is my attempt....
 
Is it possible that human life has that specification of continuation and total extinction, knowing that nothing in nature behaves that way?      

Can someone correct my effort?

You know, Mr Smith talks about philosophy and his sentences are kind of...philosophical...hee hee, not easy even to understand in Spanish, I can imagine how difficult it is to translate them into English.

What he says, or what I understand is that he wonders if it is possible that human life has a lineal concept and total extintion, I mean that life is like a line and it ends up in extintion (death) knowing that anything else in nature behaves in that way.

Later on, I will read the rest of the post and try to do my best in translating it into English for you.

Hi Saskia,    thanks for replying. Feedback is very important to me so that I will become aware of any errors in the way I am using Spanish.

As I understand the Spanish sentence... and this is only an assumption because I have only read the first sentence of the thread,  Mr Smith is asking why some people believe that some form of human existence can continue after death when nothing else in nature behaves that way.  The word "linealidad" and the use of "ser" in the infinitive are the main problems I had in trying to translate the sentence in question. It's difficult for me to (a) keep it true to the Spanish words that are used (b) keep it true to the intended meaning of the Spanish writer and (c) have the the whole thing make sense in English.    

You are correct in what you say about philosophy, it raises conceptual questions by the nature of the subject and then to try and understand the concepts of a foreign language at the same time makes it even harder again.   

Your English explanation/translation doesn't really make sense to me because it is not looking at two things that contradict each other. If human life ends up in death and the rest of nature ends up in death then there is no question to be asked about it. Perhaps you can explain it to me in simpler language.

I'm thankful for your offer to translate the rest of the thread but there is no need.  I know how much work is involved in making a translation so if I have any more questions I will post them here and perhaps we can just focus on the parts I have a problem with.
