Hi everyone,

the aim of this post is introducing everyone of you in English, the most important and extended language in the world, and create a simple but interesting meeting point where everyone is free to post anything just to practice English writing and reading ("¿what happened to you today?", "¿what are you doing?", "Ohhh, I have had a unique experienced and I want to make you know it", etc, everything is allowed). The correct knowledge of English brings you to a wide open world of new opportunities (either in the working environment or your own casual life).

Also, any forum user who wants to take part in this thread should try to correct spelling or grammar mistakes that any mate may have written in any post (if you feel capable to do so).

If I am allowed, I will post several links which can become handy to some people to learn English (please Silmarwen, notify me if I am allowed to put several helpful links for English - specially for those interested in getting any English Certification).

- http://www.vaughanradio.com <- This is a radio channel for learning English 24h a day. It helped me A LOT achieving the First certificate in English, by training my listening abilities. It has changed a little bit since the last time I visited the webpage (I could even download the programs in MP3 format to listen in my MP3 player, but I don't even if it is possible right now). It is also available in FM Radio in several cities (unafortunately not available in Barcelona, only via Inet).

- http://elblogdelingles.blogspot.com/ -> This is a blog from an English Teacher. It's manager and writer is very kind and a nice person, and it contains very helpful tips for learning English quicker and better.

- http://www.englisch-hilfen.de/en/ -> This webpage contains several exercises you can do, in conjunction with the explanations of the necessary rules in order to solve them correctly. It was my passport in order to pass the level exam of the academy in order to get the First Certificate in English in just 3 months.


As an initiation, I'll begin telling you a simple story I had today:

Hello, my name is David. Today is Wednesday, and it's Market Day, so I went to the market with my girlfriend trying to find something interesting (however, I didn't know what I wanted, BUT I WANTED SOMETHING XD).

After approximately one hour and a half, I returned back to home without buying anything because everything was too expensive for me. I found an wonderful item for ten euros, but when I put my hand inside my pocket and checked that I only had just five stupid euros, I had to turn back to home. Now I am very sad

I notice that my english is poor, and I´ll do a lot of mistakes

I´d like write something in English, although my level is low but I try it.
It´s difficult to me overcoat speaking english, and sincerely I don´t understand the irregular sentences and the rules of this language, so I suppose I express in "spaninglish version".

I´d like share with you a wrote that begin in my mind and finish in this post.
I´ll try to express my feelings...

This is the time of the change
The rose with a tear
Live the music inside me
Search for something unknown
Is this a form to waste my time?
I don´t think so

I say something wrong
and I keep silent about myself inmediately
I don´t need a mother, father, brother, sister or uncle
i don´t need a boyfriend
I don´t need people who laugh my jokes
I don´t need the lies that appears wherever I go

I need recompose my heart,
it break in thousands different parts,
and I don´t consider my life like a puzzle

I need time to live
and leave the cool of my days
complete me, please
I need you more than you believe
You are the another part
Are you arranged?

I only ask you one thing more

Did you really wrote this? I'm really surprised , not bad at all, however as long as it is a poem/song, correcting grammar or spelling mistakes is not as easy as a narration would be. However, I marked with red color some of your spelling mistakes with a note in green. I hope it will help you to improve your English a little bit

I would put a link in the first post with some links, but first I would ask for permission to the moderators (waiting for a response from Silmarwen ). Search for "Vaughan radio", "el rincon del inglés" and "english-hilfen" in Google, you'll find several interesting web pages.

Hi lina! my English isn't really as good as Rydra's, but I'll give you some advice: I like to write poems and lyrics (I've got a band) since years ago, and the MAIN way to improve your level is (obviously) to practise a lot, although you make a lot of mistakes... and, also, It's really important to search for the solution of all the doubts you have at the dictionary or the internet, asking people,etc... another thing that helped me SO MUCH is reading and translating lyrics of the songs I like...you should try it, it's so funny and you can learn unconciously.
On the other hand, I also tend to write things in the same order than Spanish...in fact, I think this is so common among people who don't use to talk in a foreigner language.
Don't give up, Lina, you only have to practise... I know I've done a lot of mistakes in my post, but we are here to learn, aren't we?

I mean it is harder to correct gramatically a song than a writing, because some artists make verses with grammar mistakes willfully in order to make them rhyme.

lina, if you do not understand any sentence we are writing, you could use the google translator in order to help you. Do you know to use it?

I use to do this for example, not so long ago I wrote a verse wich began with the word "even" instead of "although", because it sounded better... many people used to think that was wrong, but Tolkkien used that word frequently in "The lord of the rings" to refer to "although". That was a kind of "license"

In High School I was good at almost everything, but my institute didn't give me what I consider the most important skills of English: listening and speaking. Whoever is skillful speaking and listening a language, he/she dominates that language. And English is not an exception.

As a tip for everyone of you, today I would recommend, in order to improve your listening abilities, to watch TV series in English, with some assistance like subtitles if they are needed. In http://www.tvsubtitles.net/ you can download subtitles for your TV series. I downloaded 5 seasons of Futurama in English without subtitles, but I got them in that webpage, and they helped me a lot in order to improve my listening abilities, and getting better marks.

While I say Futurama, I could say Friends, Lost, Grey's Anathomy... Series with short episodes that you can rewatch easily, first with subtitles, afterwards without them, trying to understand and "decipher" what are they saying. I can assure you that this is a very effective method.

Thanks for your advice, I know that my "Troya´s horse" is the PATIENCE, I don´t know be more than thirty minutes followed working this language...
also a girl who finished a English Philology recommend me watching english films without subtitles. And with songs I tried with the Alaniss Morrisette, her letters songs are long and interesting, but I back with my no patience and I get tired immediately.

I understand...When I write and read, I help me with a translator...but this tranlate word to word so some expressions are more difficult for me to translate...Are there some program for this?
While I write I´m thinking..It must sound like in spanish, someone write "mi avlar bien muy algo?"

you can translate a whole sentence in google translator without any problem

This sentence corresponds to the google translator, the sentence is correct? Then this program translates well in English? I did not know! It is an amazing tool!

Not bad translation.

Indeed, it's not intended to be used as a formal language translator (no perfect translator exists yet), but it can give you an aproximate idea about what I am saying or how to say something ;)
